Bedtime Facts (44/365)
Almost ten percent of Finland's area is covered by lakes and rivers
The total area are (excluding maritime area) is 338,424 km2. The total area of lakes and rivers in the country is 33 350 km2.
The reason for the high percentage is two-fold. The country is located between the 60th and the 70th parallels where the westerly winds meet the northeasterly polar winds. There is a fair amount of rain throughout the year. It rains between 600-700 mm per year in most of the country. But the sun is rather low even in the middle of the summer (summer days are long but the sun is not very powerful). Relative to the amount of rain received by all of the country throughout the year, there is little evaporation. The further north you go, the greater the percentage of bog is of the total area.
There is so much rain. Is there a lot of fog?
I like the fog (Not the one from the movie though. Where everyone horribly died).
Yeah, I would say that it's quite rare to see fog here. We only have proper fog couple of times in a year.
That is not a huge amount of annual rainfall in absolute terms. I don't think Scandinavia - or Northern Russia - are particularly foggy.
The westerly winds meet the northeasterly polar winds, oh it's a fight!!
The Gang with a gang and no one knows who will win in the struggle!
One thing is sure: a lot of counterclockwise movement will ensue.
So they move clockwise and counterclockwise, I see.
Geography is just very hard. It needs smart people's head to understand it all lol.
Interesting, here the climate at least where I live, is warm all year round,
With periods of drought and rain, the average temperature is about 38 to 42 degrees
I think that's why I love snowy landscapes
XD
The average daily maximum is not that high anywhere in Venezuela. Not even during the dry season. You get a proper reading at a weather station under well-defined circumstances. You can get all sorts of readings even here if the sun shines directly at the thermometer. In equatorial rainforests, the average daily maximum is around 30 C with very high relative humidity. There is a lot of thermal energy in that water vapour, which is why you get much higher daily maximum temperatures in the desert zones surrounding the the tropics. A temperature of 50 C wouldn't be even possible in an equatorial rainforest.
But 33 C with relative humidity at 90% can feel like sauna particularly if you spend the whole day it it so I can very well understand why you enjoy snowy landscapes. :)
Do you have a lot of seafood in Finland? And whats your favourite sea food?
Yes, fishing has traditionally been important to the people of the coast. But considering the omnipresence of lakes and rivers in the country, freshwater fishing has been even more important in the past. Grilled vendace is a popular dish in the lake-rich center and east of the country. I like that very much.
That is great. I hope you will walk us through how to make it someday
I enjoy living in Finland, its so much fun. Especially I love sauna with some olut and winter swimming with sauna :D, I always feel so relaxed and happy after it. kiitos Finland for great inventions, long live Finland..!!
@markkujantunen
I came to know about Finland very early since I was using Nokia...it was awosm discovery..
Finland "land of thousand lakes"..
Heaven on earth...
It's a pretty good country to live in all things considered. But there is a downside to maintaining a very high-functioning and well-ordered society: stress and anxiety.
