The solar time difference between the eastern and the western extreme points of mainland Norway is about 1 hour and 45 minutes
The western extreme point of mainland Norway is at 04°56′43.18″E and the eastern extreme point is at 31°03′51.54″E.
Converted into decimal degrees we get 31.06432° and 4.945328° and the difference in decimal degrees is 26.118992°. Twelve hours corresponds to 180°, which means that the natural time difference is 12 h * 26.118992°/180° = 1.74126613333333 h or very close to 1 hour 44 minutes 48 seconds.
Mainland Norway has only one time zone, CET or Central European time. But the northeasternmost reaches of Norway are as far east as the westernmost parts of Turkey and the southwestern most part is as far west as the easternmost parts of France. What this means is that in the northeast of Norway, people get to sleep in during the winter, which is great because the days are short in the winter. On the other hand, the sun sets at an early time in the spring and the autumn there. In the southwest of Norway, people are forced to go to get up and go to work under relatively dark conditions during the spring and the autumn but they get to enjoy sunsets at a late time.
Here in Venezuela as we approach the month of November, the nights are much longer, and also the sun comes out very late at about 7 a.m. one must go to work very dark in the morning, the girls are the most suffering because they must wake up at 5:00 am the school of them is very removed from where we live and at that time it is very dark. They enter at 6,40am. Here there is no schedule change, and it should exist
The length of day changes little from one season to another in Venezuela because of how very close Venezuela is to the equator. Where I live, the sun rises between 3 and 4 am at summer solstice but at about 10 am at winter solstice.
So is the time difference calculated based on whether certain land falls on a time zone? I was wondering because the time difference between California and Maryland is only 3 hours and the distance is so much larger.
The difference in solar time between two places depends on the angular distance of the longitudes of the two places. The difference in miles between a certain angular distance depends on their latitudes.
Time zones are decided by society but they usually try to follow solar time, that is, the natural cycle of day and night. For political reasons, two places at quite different longitudes having very different solar time can have be in the same time zone.
Maryland is at about 38 N. At that latitude the width of the time zones in miles is much greater than it is closer to the north pole.
Cool i didn't know that , thank you for sharing that
