How to decorate your room within a small budget!

in #beauty7 years ago (edited)

Hello fellas! So I recently moved to a new apartment with @sjennon and although beautiful it lacked something.

It wasn't home like.

Now this was also the month when I was relatively broke and could not afford to buy expensive things for the place. After much thinking we managed to make our apartment look cozy and beautiful and finally, it is a home! So I though hey, maybe I should share how we managed that with such a small budget.
So, here are a few tips for you lovelies:

1. Lights

If you master the art of lighting you can make even a slum into a beautiful home. A proper balance of a few lamps or even candles can completely change the vibe of your place. You can easily find very inexpensive lamps at IKEA or supermarkets. Once you have bought the lamps, try to opt for not so bright bulbs. Of course for a reading lamp you can choose the brightness according to your requirement. Other than lamps, if they are a bit too much, go for those cheap Christmas lights. They are really wonderful and instantly lift your mood! Place then a few small candles here and there and voila. You have got yourself heaven. You can mix all the above said items or choose the lights you love the most.

2. Pictures

Another addition would be some pictures of you with your loved ones. You can get some really cheap frames, print the picture simply from your printer and frame it. If your budget is even less maybe you can pin the pictures on a bulletin board or you can stick them directly on the wall in a pattern, somewhat making a collage. It will add your personal touch to the house or your room making it more warm and welcoming!

3. Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are the quickest, cheapest and easiest way to making a place instantly chic and lively. They also give a lot of color to an otherwise mundane place. You could choose any prints and style that you think reflects you the best!

4. Plants

It is true that nature is the most beautiful thing that exists and plants in your home not only keep you healthy ( yes they do, they release oxygen and take up carbon dioxide, natural air cleaners!), they also make you a little bit more responsible and teach you how to care. But most importantly, they are pretty affordable. You can get them at supermarkets, flower shops etc. For example you can get a tiny cactus, or a white/ purple orchid. You can get something green. Options are numerous. You can also find some very low maintenance ones as well.

Here is an image from our apartment.

It is just after we added some lights. We are still working on the decoration bit by bit.

something i´ve been doing a lot as well was to buy foil and re-do old/ugly furniture. supercheap and looks great. and spraypaint things in the same color, to give it a more streamlined look. and make things yourself :) i´ll write up a blogpost one of these days to give some inspiration!

Hey, that would be nice. I still need decoration in our house, so I would love to read!

We are recently out of creativity and money but we do hope to continue pimping it up. Haha.

No matter how small the space, plants are a must. I've been making a point of adding flowers or plants to my place and I have noticed it does improve my mood, especially when the weather is grey and dull.

That is really true. Maybe you can get a small one to start with.

It's so important that you feel comfortable in your new home! It really doesn't need to be expensive, it should be done with love <3
