Since the skin is constantly renewing itself, it is very important to occasionally remove the layer of dead skin cells from the surface. This helps in rejuvenating the skin and making it soft, smooth and glowing. It also helps other products to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Making your own DIY scrub is a simple and fast solution to achieve this.

Coffee scrub has many variations, but this one is my favorite and I keep coming back to it. It is so simple and easy to make, doesn’t require many ingredients and it gives great results.

Each ingredient contributes the natural benefits of this scrub in its own way.

  • Coffee grounds has a texture rough enough to remove from your skin everything that shouldn’t be there. Coffee stimulates the skin and improves microcirculation. It is also packed with antioxidants that protect your skin from free radicals and that way delay aging signs.

  • Brown sugar is a better solution for a face scrub than white sugar, because its grains are smaller, so it won’t damage your skin. Though, my skin is not too sensitive, so sometimes I use white sugar instead and I get pretty much the same results. Sugar is a natural humectant that attracts water to your skin and helps it to keep it there. On top of that, sugar stimulates collagen production.

  • When you add an oil to your scrub, it makes the sharp scrub grains glide smoothly over your skin, which prevents irritations. Plus, all natural oils are great in moisturizing the skin and providing it with necessary nutrients.

DIY Coffee-Sugar Face Scrub

  • ½ teaspoon coffee grounds
  • ½ teaspoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon sweet almond or olive oil

All you have to do is mix coffee grounds and brown sugar. Then add around half a teaspoon of your favorite oil – you need to add just enough to get the consistency of wet sand. Mix everything well together.

Apply a thin layer of the scrub to your damp face. Gently exfoliate your skin using upward circular movements. Do this for 2 – 3 minutes, then rinse the scrub off. Wash your face with a mild cleanser and apply your face cream while your skin is still slightly damp.

Like any scrub, this could cause some temporary redness on your skin, so don’t use it in the morning or before some important event. Use it before going to bed, 1 – 2 times a week.
