Brief History

Bago City was founded by an Agustinian Priest named Father Geronimo Marin on June 24, 1975, coinciding with the feast day of St.John the Baptist. According to the manuscript of a Spanish Historian Diego de Povedano, the community was named after a large tree " Bago " under which the native prince Mapagic died. But in another version, the place got the name from shrub called " bago-bago " which was abundantly grew along the banks of the river, which was called Bago River.

In the year 1800, Bago became a " pueblo " or town after the Spanish authorities had granted the petition of the settlers descendant coming from Panay. Bago finally became a City on February 19, 1966 by virtue of R.A. Act No. 4382.

Short video clip of my Bantayan Park trip

Because I am having issues to upload my video using Dlive where the file is not recognize. Instead I uploaded it to my youtube channel just to add video clips on my post. The said video have some transition effects that I guess Dlive doesn't support the features I added.

Bantayan Park is located with in the city proper of Bago. Where you can walk or take a trike ride for 3 mins from the public plaza going to the famous land mark in the city.

The Bantayan is a perfect place for family outing, bonding with friends or for the people like me who loves to travel and take photos on magnificent views. Not only that the place have complete amenities to address your concerns from restroom, parking lots, street foods, restaurants, night lamps, seats and many more.

You can try variety of food that will satisfy your empty stomach at the Bantayan Food Park. Each restaurant serves their specialties from local dishes, sea foods, pizzas, pasta, cafeteria, smoothies, frappes, hot beverages and many more.

I am not sure if all the restaurants are still operating, because what I notice that some are already closed for so long and selected units are under renovation.

Bantayan Park are shaded by a large genus of shrubs and trees " the Acacia ". These trees are massively growing and can live for many centuries like Balete trees. Which added beauty to the park at same time you can sit on the grass while these trees protect you from direct sunlight.

The Mangroves

Mangroves are visibly growing beside the Bantayan which represents abundance in the marine area. Then these water trees serves as habitat for fish, crabs and other sea creatures. On the other side of the river Mangroves are bountifully growing in huge number.

The base and foundation of Bantayan are made of compiled solid large stones mixed with concrete cement. The slope alignment of stones prevents the ground surface to collapse and conceal the soil from erosion when water hit the coastline.

The abundant Presence of Marine life are visible in Bago river. According to the fisherman I asked about it, There are variety of sea life living like pitik-pitik or slipper lobster, crabs and shrimps.

Fisherman are collecting sea shells, crabs and slipper lobsters. They are just walking across the river because it is low tide.

This portion of Bantayan is almost at the end of the boulevard. If you notice that trees are not visible in this area, you might get sunburn after exposing yourself under the heat of the sun. However the strong wind blows make you feel better and relaxed.

Take note this welcome arch means you are heading on the right direction going to Bantayan Park or better take a trike ride to avoid from being wandered.

How to get here

From Bacolod south terminal take a Pulupandan double tire trip with transportation cost of 20 pesos. Next option is take a bus trip via kabankalan, Sipalay, Hinobaan, La carlota, Hinigaran or Dumaguete. Not like with Pulupandan trip it will stop at the Bago Market where you can easily glimpse the downtown area. But if you take a bus trip, make sure to inform the conductor to drop you where you can ride a trike going to Bantayan. The bus route is different from Pulupandan, because local transport commission of Bago City prohibit the big transport vehicle like buses and trucks.

All of the images are captured using my Nikon coolpix S2700 camera including the short video clip is my original work using Movavi software editor application.
