Re-Planting a Small Pink Dendrobium Orchid

Good Day! Hope you had an awesome weekend. Recently my mother (@sjagoe) was gifted an Orchid. It was in a very small pot as seen in the photo above. I decided to help her out (and help the orchid out) by getting a larger pot and giving the plant a new home.

As you can see in the photo below, the orchid's roots were constrained inside a small plastic cup within the pot. The plant will have no room to grow and it will eventually die if it's kept like this.

Once you take the orchid out of the original pot, it's important to clean the roots and get rid of the old potting soil. If there are dead roots, it's a good idea to chop those off. Once the plant is placed in the new pot, it will want to stretch it's roots out to grow.

Orchids generally require a special potting mix to help the plaint maintain a good air/water flow, and to provide the nutrients needed to keep the plant healthy. Below is a look at the potting mix I used for this small Dendrobium Orchid. I ordered it on Amazon. The mix contains Fir Bark, Charcoal and Coarse Perlite.

When placing the plant into the new pot, spread the roots out. It's also important to make sure the soil line remains the same as it was originally. You do not want to leave any roots exposed, and at the same time you do not want to bury the entire plant with potting mix. Once it's in the new pot, give it some water to help it adapt.

Now it's time to let the Orchid adapt to the new pot and grow. After a couple of days it already looks healthier than before it was placed in the new pot. These are some beautiful yet fragile flowers. I hope this plant will continue to live on!
