Temples - The House Of The Lord

in #beautifulsunday7 years ago

Cardston Alberta Temple

This was the first Temple to be constructed outside the borders of the United States by The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. This temple is unique as it is the first to be constructed without the signature spires and a statue of the Angel Moroni blowing a trumpet on top of the highest spire as previous architectural designs.

On October 4, 1912 it was announced that a Temple would be built in Canada, but the location hadn't been decided on yet. In February 1913 the decision was made as to the location of the Temple and on November 5, 1913 the groundbreaking was done and construction of the Temple began.

The Architecture was contracted to Harold Burton and Hyrum Pope, in a letter Burton wrote he mentioned he received inspiration from ancient ruins found in Mexico and Central America but his main interest was in pre-Columbian architecture in principal the Mayan styles.

Construction was mainly from white granite shipped from Nelson, British Columbia as a contract was set up with a local quarry. Construction was completed and the dedication of the Temple was held on August 26, 1923 some 10 years after the groundbreaking was done. For more information please visit this link lds.org

Looks like an interesting structure. Wonder how it looks like inside. Thanks for sharing on #beautfulsunday.

Glad you like it, i wanted to keep this post on the architecture of the buildings rather than the interior, but believe me the interior is amazing.

It's OK. Different post for different topic and there's google. ;-)

Houses Of The Holy...was unaware of this important landmark to christianity,we've fallen from this to Mosques.

I am glad you enjoy the buildings and the importance they have to Christianity.
