BeachWednesday - Swimming with the Whalesharks (Photos & Videos) - (English/Deutsch/Español)

Again we have BeachWednesday and I want to tell you about one of the best days of my life, where we went swimming with the whalesharks in Holbox Island, Mexico!

Wieder haben wir BeachWednesday und ich möchte euch von einem der schönsten Tage meines Lebens erzählen, wo wir in der nähe der Insel Holbox, Mexiko, mit den Walhaien geschwommen sind!

Otra vez estamos en BeachWednesday y quiero contarles de uno de los mejores días de mi vida, donde fuimos a nadar con los tiburones ballena en la isla de Holbox, México!

Whale sharks are the biggest known fish species on earth! They are growing up to 12 meters and weight up to 21 tons.

Walhaie sind die größte bekannte Fischart der Welt! Sie wachsen bis zu 12 Meter und wiegen bis zu 21 Tonnen.

¡Los tiburones ballena está conocida como la especia más grande del mundo! Crecen hasta 12 metros y pesan hasta 21 toneladas.

They are totally harmless to humans because they are vegetarians. Here at the Riviera they can find a lot of plankton. So they basically come here to eat swimming and filtering the water for plankton.

Sie sind für Menschen völlig harmlos, weil sie Vegetarier sind. Hier an der Riviera können si viel Plankton finden. Sie kommen also hauptsächlich hierher, um zu schwimmen und das Wasser nach Plankton zu filtern.

Son totalmente inofensivos para los humanos porque son vegetarianos. Aquí en la Riviera pueden encontrar mucho plancton. Así que básicamente vienen aquí para comer nadando y filtrando el agua por plancton.

They are a bit blind though so you just have to be careful not to swim accidently in their mouth which they open up to 1.5 meters.

Sie sind ein wenig blind, also muss man nur aufpassen, nicht versehentlich in ihrer Mäuler zu schwimmen, die sie bis zu 1,5 Metern breit öffnen können

Porque son un poco ciegos uno debe tener cuidado de no nadar accidentalmente a la boca, que pueden abrir hasta 1,5 metros.

We went with some friends on their free day,who work at one of the travel agencies. We rented a boat and brought own food and drinks. Knowing somebody with a licence to go there.

Wir fuhren mit ein paar Freunden, die in einem der Reisebüros arbeiten, an ihrem freien Tag. Wir mieteten ein Boot und brachten eigenes Essen und Getränke mit, und fuhren mit einem Kapitän raus, der die Lizens hatte dort zu sein.

After the breakfast we got some introductions about how to react with the animals. For example that you shouldn´t get closer than 2 meters, don´t try to touch them etc.

Then we went on the boat which took us straight to swim with the whale sharks. (about 30 minutes until we got there). They are normally spottet just between Holbox Island and Contoy Island.

There is always one guide per boat available. The guide goes into the water with 2 people for about 10 - 15 minutes 2-3 times each. (If there would be more people with him he would just loose them :D ). We where 3 guides on the boat so we could swim pretty much as long as we wanted to.

Nach dem Frühstück bekamen wir eine kleine Einführung, wie wir mit den Tieren umzugehen hatten. Zum Beispiel, dass wir nicht näher als 2 Meter kommen sollten, nicht versuchen sollten sie zu berühren etc.

Dann gingen wir auf das Boot, das uns direkt zum Schwimmen mit den Walhaien brachte. (ca. 30 Minuten bis wir dort ankamen). Normalerweise halten sie sich immer zwischen den Inseln Holbox und Contoy auf.

Es steht immer einen Guide pro Boot zur Verfügung. Der Guide geht mit 2 Personen für ca. 10-15 Minuten jeweils 2-3 mal ins Wasser. (Wenn er auf mehr Personen aufpassen müsste, würde er sie einfach verlieren: D). Wir waren 3 Guides auf dem Boot, so dass wir so lange schwimmen konnten, wie wir wollten.

Después del desayuno, recibimos algunas presentaciones sobre cómo interactuar con los animales. Por ejemplo, que no deberías acercarte más que a 2 metros, no intentes tocarlos, etc.

Luego nos subimos al barco que nos llevó directamente a nadar con los tiburones ballena. (aproximadamente 30 minutos hasta que llegamos allí). Normalmente se encuentran entre la isla Holbox y Contoy.

Siempre hay un guía por bote disponible. La guía entra al agua con 2 personas durante aproximadamente 10 - 15 minutos 2-3 veces cada una. (Si hubiera más gente con él, simplemente los perdería: D). Estuvimos 3 guías en el barco para poder nadar casi tanto como quisiéramos.

It really depends on the boats captan if he spots the whale shark and you jump in right next to it or if you go into the water and look for yourself.

Es hängt wirklich vom Bootskapitän ab, ob er den Walhai entdeckt und du direkt daneben springst oder ob du ins Wasser gehst und ihn selbst suchst.

Realmente depende del capitan, si el ve al tiburón ballena y tú saltas justo al lado o si te metes al agua y lo buscas.

You can find them in two different statuses. They are eating, staying on the same spot or they are swimming around and you have to swim fast to keep their speed. -That can be really hard because you will be distracted of their beauty and size.

Sie können sie in zwei verschiedenen Stati antreffen. Entweder sie essen und bleiben an der gleichen Stelle oder schwimmen herum und man muss schnell schwimmen, um ihre Geschwindigkeit zu halten. -Das kann wirklich schwer sein, weil man von ihrer Schönheit und Größe abgelenkt wird.

Puedes encontrarlos en dos estados diferentes. Están comiendo, permaneciendo en el mismo lugar o están nadando y tienes que nadar rápido para mantener su velocidad. -Eso puede ser realmente difícil porque te distraer su belleza y tamaño.

Often you also see really big sting rays which is Awesome!!

Oft sieht man auch sehr große Stachelrochen, was super ist !!

¡¡Muchas veces también se ven manta rayas muy grandes que son increíbles !!

Afterwards most of the tours go on to Isla Mujeres where you get your lunch. All day long you should have water and later beers included. The lunch mostly is fish, ceviche and guacamole.

You chill some time at Isla mujeres North beach and then go back home :)

For me it is a really special thing to get to see whale sharks and a privilege to swim with them! It was until now the most beautiful day here at the Riviera Maya.

Danach fahren die meisten Touren nach Isla Mujeres, wo man sein Mittagessen bekommt. Sonst gibt es den Tag über schon Wasser und Bier. Das Mittagessen besteht hauptsächlich aus Fisch, Ceviche und Guacamole.

Wir chillten ein wenig am Nordstrand der Isla Mujeres und fuhren dann wieder nach Hause :)

Für mich ist es eine ganz besondere Sache, Walhaie zu sehen und ein Privileg, mit ihnen zu schwimmen! Es war bis jetzt der schönste Tag für mich an der Riviera Maya.

Despues, la mayoría de los botes van a la Isla Mujeres, donde se almuerza. Todo el día ya hay agua y luego cervezas incluidas. El almuerzo es principalmente pescado, ceviche y guacamole.

Allí nos relajamos un rato en la parte nortena de la Isla Mujeres y luego nos volvimos a casa :)

¡Para mí era realmente especial ver a los tiburones ballena y un privilegio nadar con ellos! Hasta ahora para mi era el día más hermoso en la Riviera Maya.

The last swim was just the best! We had one on the left side and the other one one our right.

Das letzte Spurt war einfach der Beste! Wir hatten einen auf der linken Seite und den anderen auf der rechten Seite.

¡El último nado fue el mejor! Tuvimos uno en el lado izquierdo y el otro en nuestra derecha.
