A Walk on the Beach - EXPLORING ROCKPOOLS
It is midwinter in Cape Town and it is supposed to be wet and rainy. Alas, however, we are in the middle of a terrible drought and the rain just doesn't seem to come. The positive side of this is that we are getting glorious sunny days and yesterday was one of these.
Onyx the dog and I went to go walking on Glencairn Beach and exploring some of the rock pools there.
The Cape Urchins are abundant on the rocks. I love the gorgeous colour variations of pink, purple and red - striking against the yellow rocks.
Onyx checks out the tidal pool next to the rock pools.
We also spotted a red starfish (Collopatiria granifera) which I haven't seen before in these pools. This one is sprouting an extra leg! You can also just see a sandy anemone next to the starfish.
Here is a spiny starfish which is quite common in these pools (Marthasterias glacialis).
Nice post and very nice pics
Thanks
