A small version of Boracay Island...

Kalanggaman Island is just one of the Philippines natural riches located in the municipality of Palompon in the province of Leyte, It looks like a smaller version of Boracay Island. Though the island is geologically positioned in Leyte. Kalanggaman is famous for its crystal clear water, white powdery sand and long sandbars stretching on both sides of the island. The surrounding of the beach is really calm, safe and truly relaxing that’s why its suitable for family holidays or for short weekend trip. My experience visiting Kalanggaman Island is unforgettable because it was my first time to sleep in a virgin island with only the moon and the stars as our lights for the night. Yes, there is no electricity in the island so your source of light comes from the heaven above. There are no restaurants in Kalanggaman Island but you can buy fresh catch from local fishermen. There are grilling stations and wooden tables that are for tourists.

Since there’s no hotel in the island, you need to bring or rent a tent if you are planning to stay overnight on Kalanggaman Island. If you hate the crowded beach, avoid visiting the island during summer, national holidays, holy week and long weekends. How to get there?

From Cebu, ride a taxi to go to Pier 3. In pier 3, you can either ride a SuperCat (fast boat) going to Ormoc or a ship en route to Palompon. If you chose SuperCat, it takes about 2 hours to reach Ormoc, then you need to ride a van going to Palompon. Ship from Cebu will take 4 hours to reach Palompon.
Once you’re in Palompon, go to Palompon Liberty Park and pay the necessary fees for the Kalanggaman EcoTour. You can ride a bike called "Potpot" to go to Liberty Park. Boat ride from this point to Kalanggaman Island takes about an hour for regular boats and 35 minutes for speed boats.
