Khaleda's bail hearing ends: Order tomorrow
The hearing on the leave and appeal filed by the ACC against the bail granted to the BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust case. The order will be given tomorrow. The hearing was held on Sunday on the four-judge bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain. Khurshid Alam Khan on behalf of the Commission and the state Attorney General Mahbub-e-Alam was hearing. The attorney said, if bail is given to Khaleda Zia, the appeal will never be heard. The High Court has directed you to make a paperbook within four months. The appeal division can reduce it to two months. The original appeal hearing will be made when the paperbook is ready. Meanwhile, security measures have been strengthened on the Supreme Court premises, on bail hearing. Additional police have been deployed at all the gates entrance with the main gate. After entering the card to lawyers and journalists, many had to enter the court chamber. All in all, strict security measures have been taken by the lawyers.
On Monday, the High Court granted bail to Khaleda Zia for four months. Later, in the wake of the application of the ACC and the state, the High Court stayed the bail granted to Khaleda Zia till Sunday. The Appellate Division suspended the appeal. At the same time, the court fixed the date for hearing on the leave-to-appeal.
The ACC and the state government have asked the High Court to cancel the bail order given to live-to-appeal. Apart from this, the appeal has been extended for the extension of the stay on bail till the appeal is not settled.
Dhaka's Special Judge Court-5 gave Khaleda Zia five-year rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust case. He has been imprisoned since the verdict on February 8.
