or Angiospermae, "covered seed plants
Flower or flower (Latin: flos) is a sexual reproduction tool in flowering plants (divisio Magnoliophyta or Angiospermae, "covered seed plants"). In flowers there are reproductive organs, namely stamens and pistils.
Flowers can appear singly or together in a series. The interest that comes together is called a compound interest or inflorescence. In some species, compound interest may be regarded as a single (flower) interest, for example in Anthurium and sunflower. The unit of interest that composes a compound interest is called a floret.
Botanically, flowers are part of the plant to produce seeds. Pollination and fertilization take place on flowers. After fertilization, the flowers will grow further forming the fruit. In flowering plants, fruit is the structure that carries and protects the seeds.
All the flowers in the world come from an ancestor that lived 140 million years ago. Through a scientific reconstruction, scientists from Universite Paris-Saud managed to uncover the beauty of the ancestor's face.
Herve Sauquet and his team analyzed 792 species of existing flower species and mapped their spread in the evolutionary tree. Then, they predict what kind of ancestors last.
The results of reconstruction show, the ancestor of all flowers have a crown that is arranged in a circle and in one area, resembling the crown of lilies.
Meanwhile, the petals are arranged in stacked and spiral, encircling the stems. It's like a lotus petal.
"To some extent, the results of the study are staggering, especially the fact that the organs are arranged in a circle, not a spiral as imagined," Sauquet told the BBC on Tuesday (91/8/2017).
The study, published in the journal Nature Communication, reveals, the ancestor of all flowers are also double. That is, stamens and pistils lie in one flower.
"This study is important because it tells us how intricate the flower is, now the task is to look for something and resemble reconstruction in the fossil record," said Jason Hilton of the University of Birmingham who is also involved in the study.
Until now, beautiful flowers actually still have a lot of mystery. Scientists have not been able to uncover the evolution of interest because of the obstacles of finding the fossil. This latest research provides enlightenment.
