Today we have an exclusive preview of I Am Batman #0, the book that brings Jace Fox as Batman even closer to the current main Batman line.

It’s a direct continuation of Jace’s adventures in the DC Comics digital-first series, The Next Batman, which is currently being collected and released in physical format at local comic shops. The new book is due out August 10 (with FOC set for July 18, for those who pay attention to such things), and it is written by John Ridley, with artwork by Travel Foreman. The Beat has three unlettered interior pages from the comic to share (exclusively!) below.

Both of these comics play with an alternate (maybe?) future status quo glimpsed by readers earlier this year in the linewide DC Comics event, Future State. In that reality, Bruce Wayne has been largely dispatched as the main Batman and gone to ground under the crushing boot of the fascistic Magistrate, brought to power by corrupt forces under the auspice of removing super crime from Gotham. In the absence of Bruce, Jace Fox (son of Lucius Fox) has taken over the main Batman mantle.

The question that all the Batman comics are essentially dancing around right now is whether what we saw in the Future State comics will eventually come to pass. I Am Batman #0 looks poised to continue pushing ahead further in that direction.
