He will build new Detroit Pistons - DWANE CASEY
A coach who successfully developed the Raptors, but could not win with LeBron James. Dwayne Casey signed a 5-year contract with Detroit Pistons.
Dwane Casey was the hero of one of the strangest situations of the last years in the NBA. He was released shortly after he was awarded the title of NBA Trainer Of The Year. However, it did not win the Eastern Conference with a great balance of 59-23, when the Raptors lost very clearly with Cavaliers by 0:4.
The Pistons, on the other hand, are trying to start all over again, after Stan van Gundy's several-year rule has completely failed in the club. In Detroit, it was decided a few weeks ago that power would be split this time, so Dwayne Casey will not be managing at the same time.
Casey is a respected, experienced coach, in the Raptors he made progress in each subsequent season, starting from the bottom of the NBA and putting more on organic development and sensible choices in draft than the revolutionary exchanges of players. He likes to play a wide team and has good contact with young players - both of these features were often missing van Gundy.
