Quite interesting to read this perspective. Personally I think we really need to test basic income big time, to see what impact it will have. However in Holland I basically here 1 thing why a basic income is impossible. Because it's too expensive for our government to pay.
Government based basic income creates another problem...dependence upon the government which is bad. That is not necessarily the answer either although, when medical, incarceration (the entire police/court system), and social programs are all tallied, odds are many countries are already paying for the basic income, just in different ways.
Indeed government already pays quite a lot. And for people without a job and back savings, they also provide a minimum wage (don't know the precise English word for that). And that's the big difference with a basic income, cause there everyone would receive such a standard wage from the government. And at the same time we could skip all kind of policies where poor people receive some money for this and for that.
