Gotta love Eucker!

Getting the whole team to arrive, organize and sit still for team pictures is tough. That’s why the St. Louis Cardinals chose not to redo this team pic from 1965 when they finally realized why Bob Gibson was grinning so big.

Bob Uecker, next to him, reached across Gibson’s lap, and when the flashbulb went off, they were holding hands. It stayed in the official team pic.

Uecker, normally a very good defensive catcher, led the league in passed balls a couple of seasons later. Of course, he was catching Phil Niekro that year. Asked the best way to catch a knuckle ball, Bob famously said, “wait til it stops rolling and pick it up.”
