Alex Verdugo was a 2014 draft pick by the Dodgers organization in the second round of the MLB draft. Initially thought of as a homerun slugger with average defense, Verdugo was an afterthought to their first round draft pick that year, Grant Holmes. Three years later, Alex Verdugo is proving himself as an excellent hitter with crisp defense, hitting a respectable .333 in the AAA league. Grant Holmes has been traded to the Oakland A's.

What's more impressive is that unlike his initial projection, Alex Verdugo has become an average hitter, that is, a hitter that hits for averages. He doesn't swing for the fences, but he does spray the ball all over the field. Any many baseball fans will tell you, this is an excellent development. An outfielder that can stretch innings by getting on base and driving runners in are assets on any team.

So yeah, he probably has a bright future. And barring any trades, he's gonna be playing for a premier franchise in the LA Dodgers. He's cards will definitely pop in value when he gets called up.

The problem with adding Alex Verdugo's cards to your collection is that he's such a standout player that people have begun to notice and have been paying higher and higher prices for his cards. His autograph cards were available for about $30 in 2015, but it's now around $100. However, because I'm pretty sure that the value of his cards will continue to climb, I'm buying in.
