Renegade Music

I feel so renegade. I concealed carried a weapon of musical destruction today... and wanted to pull it out in church amongst unsuspecting worshippers.... (hey, they picked a bunch of songs written in ‘jig’ time...!) 😮

And then later, I was tempted — TEMPTED, I SAY 😱 — to pull it out and play.... in Walmart.

In other news, I am a hopeless case. 😛 🎶

I have been playing a LOT. The new tinwhistle (a Clarke ‘Celtic’ Sweetone) is fabulous... I own two other Sweetones, and this is by far and away the best playing one of the bunch. (And my others were two of my favored whistles!) I am in bardic and Celtic music heaven. 💕 The best part is, my boys stop what they are doing to come and dance when I play, and it is such a sweet sight for my mother’s heart.

I have been really inspired as of late by some of the things I’m seeing in the Celtic music scene — in particular, a whistle maker and player by the name of Nick Metcalf. I saw a video he posted on Facebook of a set he did of hymns and worship music and was frankly blown away by it.... As a worship leader and a whistle player myself, I have been on FIRE considering the possibilities in my own church. I had never before considered the tinwhistle as an instrument for worship, but I was seriously moved. 💕

I am also feeling quite supercharged lately, as I have found some classes on sound healing that I am interested in, and I ordered some ‘healing musician’ textbooks for self-study. It’s my hope and desire (and also, I feel, my divine Calling) to use my music ministry as a healing ministry, and these things will help further the journey or peregrinatio (an ancient Irish latin word to mean the grand spiral into the heart of God, the act of seeking Him in our travels, spiritual and physical). I honestly have no idea what the path, let alone the end product, will look like when I get there — I am operating strictly on intuition and heart and praying the details will sort themselves out. And so far, they seem to. Odd things and unusual social connections have dropped into place as I have been led back to my musical heart, far too coincidental to be anything but Hand of God at work.

(I’ll have more posts on this as I get going in it.)
(But I’m very excited about it!)

In the meantime, the weather had turned frigid and we have been the recipient of some hard frosts the last couple days. Almost all the leaves are gone, and the Juncos have returned to the bare branches. No snow yet, but it isn’t likely to be far off.

I hope to have another video produced this week, and I trust all of you have been well! 💕
