We continue our journey to the 2009 final against Manchester United. The team led by Sir Alex Ferguson won the Champions League title the previous year and were determined to win again after winning the Premier League, the League Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Community Shield with Cristiano Ronaldo as the top scorer with 26 goals in all competitions and also United made a record-fee transfer by snatching Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham for £30.75m.

United succeeded in reaching the knockout stage after 2 wins and 4 draws in a group with Villarreal, Aalborg BK and Celtic. Then faced Internazionale, Porto and Arsenal in the elimination stage to reach the final against the Catalans who were led by Barcelona legend Pep Guardiola.

On the other side, there was the refreshed team of Barcelona with the debut final of Pep Guardiola. He was responsible for making a revolution in the Catalan side by selling the likes of Ronaldinho, Deco, Thuram and Zambrotta. He made Leo Messi a first choice, promoted Sergio Busquets and bought back Gerard Piqué. Also he bought Dani Alves. Eto'o was the League top scorer with 30 goals but the Argentine genius Messi scored 38 goals in total to become the lead scorer for the Catalans in the 2008-09 season.

After playing in the playoffs against Wisła Kraków, Barcelona won their group against the teams of Sporting CP, Shakhtar Donetsk and Basel. In the knockout stage they faced Lyon, Bayern Munich and in a dramatic 2nd game they reached the final after a stunning late goal by Andres Iniesta.

Then came the final...

Barcelona went to attack the net with Messi, Eto'o and Henry and United started with Park, Ronaldo and Rooney. The game started with an early goal in the 10th minute scored by Samuel Eto'o. The game was mostly even and United tried to change things by subbing in Berbatov, Tevez and Scholes but this only led to Leo Messi scoring a shocking header in the 70th minute. This led to Barcelona winning their 3rd Champions League title and later won all 6 cups that they were able to win which made them the "Dream Team".
