Gazipur voted on 26th June
EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmad told reporters that the date for the election was finalized on Sunday.
He said there will be no need to announce a fresh schedule for this election. Candidates will get a chance to get promoted again from 18th June.
On May 15, the Election Commission of Ghazipur and Khulna City Corporation announced the election schedule on March 31. Accordingly, preparations for the polls were going on.
But the High Court ordered the suspension of the election for 6 months on 6th May, challenging the validity of the inclusion of six mouzas of Shimulia Union of Savar, Dhaka, chairman ABM Azharul Islam Suryuj writ petition.
The Appellate Division canceled the suspension on Thursday and decided to vote within 28 June after the appeal of two mayoral candidates of BNP and Awami League against the order and disposing of the leave to appeal of the Election Commission.
After the new date for voting in the commission meeting on Sunday, Joint Secretary (Current Duty) of EC Elections Division Farhad Ahmad Khan said that the order of the court must be obeyed. Although there will be any kind of monitoring, it will be done before the voting.
He said, "Can not run any kind of campaign until 17 June. If someone tries to campaign, the code of conduct will be violated. The Returning Officer will issue a public statement on this matter. "
Presiding over the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, the Election Commissioners, Commission Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, Joint Chiefs Officer, Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer and District Election Officer were present in the meeting.
