Der Weißkopfseeadler ist das Wappentier Amerikas. Ich möchte euch ein Projekt vorstellen, das sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat das Leben dieser Greifvögel zu dokumentieren. Mit einer ganzen Reihe von Kameras werden einzelne Nester das ganze Jahr über beobachtet und live ins Netz gestellt.

The bald eagle is the heraldic animal of America. I would like to introduce you to a project that has set itself the task of documenting the life of these birds of prey. With a whole series of cameras, individual nests are observed throughout the year and placed live on the net.

Vom Ei zum ersten Ausflug / From the egg to the fledglings

Die Elterntiere verbleiben das ganze Jahr über am Nest, während die Jungen im August ausfliegen und sich ein eigenes Revier suchen. Im Februar werden die Eier gelegt, bis Anfang April schlüpfen die Jungen und bis Ende Juni sind sie dann flügge und versuchen sich in ersten Flugversuchen, die recht amüsant zu beobachten sind.

The parents stay at the nest all year round, while the youngsters fly out in August and look for their own area. In February, the eggs are laid, until the beginning of April, the eaglets hatch and until the end of June, they are then fledglings and try in first flight tests, which are quite amusing to observe.

Nights / Die Nächte

In den Nächten kann man des öfteren Eulen, Mäuse und anderes Getier im Nest beobachten, ein Altvogel schläft meißtens auf einem Ast in der Nähe.

In the nights you can often see owls, mice and other animals in the nest, an adult bird is sleeping on a nearby branch.

Nest work / Nestarbeiten

Das Ausbessern des Nestes ist eine ganzjährige Arbeit, die von beiden Altvögeln gemeinsam durchgeführt wird, hier die Mamma mit ihrem neuen Ast:

Die Kleinen haben einen unstillbaren Hunger und werden ständig mit Nahrung versorgt:

Seit 2011 werden einzelne Jungvögel mit Satellitensendern versehen und können auf einer Karte verfolgt werden:
