'Balance', such a nice word, but what does it mean? It can be used in so many different ways balance of weight, elements, emotional stability, the volume of various sources of sound, counteracting weight or force and more. But how do you find balance? And why would you?

The word for me means that 'things' are in harmony, it's good. Giving me a believe that finding balance means finding something that's good. Maybe it's joy, maybe it's happiness sometimes it's a new insight, but when I look for balance, I always find something positive. I like to think you can always do too much, too little and the truth is always in the middle. But how do you know that you have found a balance and aren't doing too much or too little?

Finding balance
Finding balance might be impossible, but looking for balance will definitely teach you a lot of good things. But how do we get closer to this balance? Well, we can find when we're not in balance. Extremes are often the opposite of balance. We can recognize extremes by looking at what the general population seems to be doing. If everyone seems to be sleeping 8 hours and your 5 or 10, you might be doing an extreme, at least it's worth testing. This sounds very logical for some, but we often make mistakes when it comes to extremes. For instance, nobody should use drugs cause it's bad for you. This is something lots of people will agree with. But 'balance' people, first alcohol is also a drug, it's just legal. Just as medicines. So 'nobody should use that' and 'there bad for you', isn't a right statement. It's too extreme. In certain scenarios drugs are good. If someone has a depression and can take antidepressant (drugs) to feel better, it's a good thing. It's still their choice. Because saying everyone with a depression should take antidepressant is also too extreme. When do things start to be extreme? Well, this mostly happens when we stop thinking rationally and logically. But when does this happen? In psychology this is called a 'bias', basically a human thinking mistake we all often make.

What is a psychological bias?
Psychologist Daniel Kahneman, Paul Slovic, and Amos Tversky introduced the concept of psychological bias in the early 1970s. They explained that psychological bias - also known as cognitive bias - is the tendency to make decisions or take action in an illogical way. For example, you might subconsciously make selective use of date, or you might feel pressured to make a decision by powerful colleagues. Psychological bias is the opposite of common sense and clear, measured judgment. It can lead to missed opportunities and poor decision-making. You often overestimate or underestimate certain situations or consequences. You can easily forget that the meaning of the word drugs, isn't bad in every situation. You just used a bit of the information that you have.
