You can but you would have to be lucky with the weather and you will probably need some days to get a job in the new place. People normally work a lot when is the high season, take some weeks off to get to the next place and work a lot in the new place. There are times of the year and regions with more jobs than others but you could definitely do it. There is a lot of info on the internet if you look for picking seasons New Zealand.
