The Wisdom of Desire

The third Great Wisdom is Desire. Love is the desire to join in union with the Supreme Reality. This is the longing one feels for union with the infinite. Desire is the secret of all creation, the basis of Divine Manifestation and what keeps humans alive. If we have no desire for the Absolute, we become dead.
Our Lady Babalon represents Desire in its purest form. Babalon is unadulterated Lust. This is Lust for all things beautiful. It is where we lose ourselves in the momentary knowledge of Bliss. Babalon is the Desire for Bliss. When we feel intense Love, we know Babalon.
In the Hindu Tantra traditions, this Wisdom of Desire is represented by Tripurasendari, or “She Who is Beautiful in the Three Realms”. Tripurasendari is recognized as a manifestation of Shakti, or the female essence of Supreme Reality.
The Wisdom of Desire is a great power and should not be underestimated. People will go to many lengths to fulfill their Desire, even if they do not understand where it ultimately originates. All Desire arises as a longing to reunite with the Infinite.
