Aborted Engine Start

in #b7377 years ago

Condition : During a ground start, an abort engine start condition occurs.

On GND
The conditions to abort and an engine start are published in FCOM [Engine Start Procedure] and further by [Cold Weather Ops]
All these conditions relate to "after moving the start lever to IDLE". So, you must not dig up the NNC [Aborted Engine Start] when engine start is aborted with the engine start lever still in CUTOFF.

In FLT
The NNC [Aborted Engine Start] must not be used for an engine start in flight. This is taken care of by the NNC [Engine In-Flight Start].

  • Maximum motoring occurs when N2 acceleration is less than 1% within a 5 seconds interval.
  • The engine starter duty cycle is printed in the same FCOM procedure. Here is an Einstein look-alike mnemonic for the engine starter duty cycle : 2M - 10"
  • If engine start is aborted because there is no oil pressure indication by the time the engine is stable at idle, the engine must still be motored for 60 seconds, Damage to roller bearings at low RPM (N2 below 25%) is unlikely to occur, even if the oil system is empty. It is more important to remove heat from the engine core.
