My entry for the first ASW is this photograph of an abandoned old Florida family homestead 5 miles south of me off a dirt road not far from Orange Lake. It’s location is just off an asphalt road that used to be a railway line many years ago.
The family that lived there were native Floridians. Not sure what happened, but it’s just been sitting there for several years-empty and alone.
I just love the house and surrounding property. The oaks throw off nice shadows in B/W.
Gorgeous! You can write a story just by looking at this photograph! Appt Saturday Friend!
It is pretty isn’t it, there is serenity there. If I could I’d buy it and fix it up.🐓
That wrap around porch is dreamy!
Beep! Beep! @shadow3scalpel at your service. I am here to assist all military members on Steemit. This HumVee will be scouting posts from a list of Veterans that is maintained by @chairborne. If you are a Veteran and new to Steemit, and you have questions or want to join the Veterans community, reply to this comment. We got your six, unless you are in the rear with the gear. Ooh-Rah!

Thank you soldiers. 🐓🐓
In my experience, abandoned houses are usually empty for a reason... ;-)
Great picture though - I really like the foreboding atmosphere.
You are correct about being abandoned for a reason. I think our curiosity is peaked by the question of why was it abandoned. 🐓🐓
Do abandoned homes tend to deteriorate quickly in the humidity there?
Actually they decay rather slowly and just wither before ones eyes. It takes years because they were built properly with wood that withstood the humidity and elements here. New houses are probably worse. Good question. Back then they built with red pine, cypress, or cedar. 🐓🐓
This is true in the Pacific Northwest as well, the buildings just linger and slowly decay. My great-grandmother's old house did just that... 50 years later, it was still completely recognizable. I believe the most recent owners of the property finally pulled the rest of it down.
Oh wow. Are you in Marion County? I am not too far from there and grew up maybe 10 miles south of Orange Lake...
Yep! Not far from the old bass capital of the US. Now the alligator capital. Where are you now? 🐓🐓
Did you recognize that old house? Been there a long time.
I am in Ocala in between down town and silver springs by the old water park. Yes isn't that house closer to Mcinstosh tho?
Yes, the Boardman road off 441😉
Oh stunning! If it was my house I would add a wrap around verandah and it would be perfect :-) Such nice big trees and garden. I would like to go see the houses in the South one day. Like that house in The Notebook. 🤗
I hear you . I love that house. It actually has an Asian feel to it. Good to see you. Love 🐓🐓
Nice on Mother 🐓🐓! Sad to see these wonderful old homesteads abandoned. I did not know about this contest. I will have to see what I have, Thanks
Do check your inventory. This could be really fun for those of us that like old houses.🐓🐓
I've got a few but have not decided which to use this week. I will post tomorrow.
Great shot! Look really creepy with all the shadows from the trees 💯🐒
Monkeys like to hide in those shadowy trees I am told. I love the old house it has a come closer, but not too close vibe going on. 🐓🐓
Maybe thats why I like it so much ;) 💯🐒
