Subtropical Storm Melissa Departs Today With Late Partial Clearing

Good morning everyone. Things get a little easier today forecast-wise and coastal flooding-wise as Nor'easter turned Subtropical Storm Melissa begins to get kicked out by a cold front approaching to our west. That cold front won't do much to our temperatures, but it'll be just enough to kick this stubborn system out as tides slowly subside.

We have a cloudy start today with Melissa's cloud shield still sitting over our area. Meanwhile, a cold front to our west will help kick her out, but the cold front is weak and shouldn't bring much precipitation with it, if anything at all.

Most of the light showers will go to our north, and we'll have two sets of partial clearing - one as we get the blue skies sandwiched in between Melissa and the front, then we may cloud up again as the front approaches, and clear up again for good as it clears. Highs today will be in the upper 60's to low 70's depending on how much sun we get.

Tides are still an issue, especially for the south facing shores of Long Island. Our last "bigger" tide will be this morning, but we could still see some minor coastal flooding for the evening high tide cycle. Things will slowly start to subside, and we should be fully back to normal by tomorrow evening.

Tomorrow is looking like a very nice day as well as Columbus Day on Monday. Expect back to back sunny days, with the slight chance of showers tomorrow night as we still have to await this cold front's low pressure to pass to our north. Either way, tomorrow and Monday are dry with highs in the upper 60's to low 70's tomorrow, and 70-75 on Monday.

On Tuesday, we keep the sunshine around one more day, then a fairly moisture-laden system approaches us late Tuesday night/Wednesday. We'll go for upper 60's on Tuesday, then watch closely to see if a wave running ahead of our next system times out perfectly and merges over us. If so, we should get a pretty good soaking. If not, expect on and off rain on Wednesday.

Things will be cooler behind that next system, and we could end the week in the low 60's before high pressure moves offshore and we warm up with the return-flow. If things work out correctly, next weekend could be on the sunny and very mild side, with 70's possibly returning ahead of our next system.
