NYC Cold Air Push Could Create Patchy Black Ice Overnight

Good morning everyone. Our highly anticipated cold air is almost here, and we fine-tune the forecast to give you the most accurate depiction as far as what to expect and timing. Our coldest air of the season remains a brief stay; then another, possibly even colder blast, heads in mid-week next week.

For those waking up early, we have a few patches of blue this morning. We'll hold onto that for a few hours, then clouds will increase, lower, and thicken with our front heading in. Expect rain starting between 4-6pm, and we should have some steady light to moderate rain till 12 to 1am. Highs today will be in the mid to upper 50's.

As that rain exits and cold air moves in, we could see a few wet snow flakes mixed in very briefly. The big story is the cold air itself. Most areas will be at or just below freezing prior to sunrise tomorrow, which means if there are any wet roads left, we could see some patchy black ice. Be careful commuting early tomorrow morning and give yourself some extra time in case there are accidents. Look for lows overnight in the upper 20's to low 30's.

Tomorrow remains simple but cold. Expect a stiff WNW breeze and highs only in the upper 30's to near 40. Until the wind begins to subside, we could see windchills in the 20's.

For your weekend, Saturday remains cold but at least the wind dials back. We'll have sunny skies and highs in the low 40's. Clouds creep in on Sunday with "warmer" air moving in, but it'll feel like springtime compared to the 2 prior days; highs in the mid to upper 50's with sun & clouds.

Sun & clouds remain with us on Veteran's Day Monday, and we'll probably end the day on a cloudy note as our next system approaches. Look for mid 50's, then possibly some rain overnight.

As of now, Tuesday and Wednesday's system looks like a rain event, with possibly a brief mix or wet snow chance at the very end. Unless I see anything that truly blows me away, the big story will again be the cold behind it. This one has the potential to be even colder that our upcoming shot of cold air.
