Picked up a 1993 325i e36 for 400 bucks. Plan on building it modifying it . turbo , camshafts , better pistons rods, fuel pumps . will be fun hobby . inline 6 . these inline six engines are great. must do more research into them. DOHC 24 valves! . M50 engine with 6 Speed manual transmission. WOW. Very fun and exciting little car. i can see why people love these machines. 3 series BMW s are fast and nimble . nice balance of speed and handling .
Will be building it up for the learning experience it has lots of wiring work to be done . interior things like power windows both driver and passenger side do not work , the seats still move , the door handles dont work, has no radio. Going to install switches and relays , must do some soldering , wire cutting ,testing window motors, and locks. this and that . checking out polarities . look for amperage voltage and resistance in the circuits using my DVOM. should be simple and challenging being that the car is already gutted . half the work is done for me .
The engine and transmission seem to run fine so far. shifts and pulls hard. first gear is a bit weird . feels as if if does not grab fully . Could be I am a not pushing in the clutch enough my technique . All of this can be replaced over time and it will . everyday little things will get do on the car to make it better. Sooner than later that IS a fact . Must do an over all inspection to see how the engine looks and performs . get a feel for all the systems involved the engine itself is a bit messy in terms of how all the components are installed and some of the wiring in the engine bay is bit messy. a lot of zip ties lol!! visual inspections are very important to the longevity of any vehicle . pop the hood sometimes . You will be surprised .
I was informed it had a small oil leak . could be from the oil pan. so i must find it before it becomes a bigger issue. it looks and sounds fine when it runs . it makes a nasty rattling noise when i shift it into gear but as mentioned above it is not the transmission . i was also told it was the transmission but i will go under the car and figure it out . something is loose and clanging . the sounds are coming from the rear i believe near the differential . overall for the price the car is a solid platform will be a great learning experience for my friends and myself . i already took it on the free way and hit 6th gear. great fun. !
