Coffee and cars - changing bulbs

in #automotive6 years ago

One of the running jokes in my Ford Fiesta car group is that whenever @azlan96 calls for a meetup, it usually means he needs our help to fix/install something on his car. Tonight is one of those nights, because he needs help to install

  • headlamp bulb
  • from bumper rubber skirting

To be fair, both task sounds easy but if one is not used to dismantling stuffs from one's car, it is actually quite daunting.

Only the ratchet wrench on the left was needed to install the headlamp bulb, the rest was supposed to be used to install the rubber skirting. SUPPOSED.

Starting with the headlamps, the Fiesta engine bay is quite cramped, even more so for the 1.0l Ecoboost model which @azlan96 was driving. Something as simply as changing a bulb requires the removal of the entire headlamp from the car, which involves unscrewing both ends of the headlamp and then brace yourself while you pull the whole assembly out with a loud snap.

After removing the headlamp, it's just a matter of carefully replacing the bulb(s). Lovingly placing the headlamp on your lap is optional.

After testing to make sure the new bulbs work, just reverse the process and it's done. Of course it is easier said that done, because you need to carefully nudge the mounting points back to their correct positions while trying not to scratch or brake anything.

The plan after that was to install the rubber skirting, but somehow it didn't fit well and @azlan96 decided not to go ahead with it as it involves drilling the bumper, where any mistakes are not reversible. So instead we just spent the rest of the night hanging out in the stuffy car park because we were too lazy to go elsewhere.

On a side note - Another member who also owns a 1.0l Ecoboost Fiesta S noticed that curiously, some parts in his engine bay is different from @azlan96's. Try spotting the difference below:

This is very strange indeed, since they are the same model rolling out from the same factory, but is just 1 year apart? If you know why the differences, let me know in the comments!
