I think a part of the problem with newer cars is there is no passion behind the design, the automakers are worried more about mpg than they are about design. We still have some beautiful cars being made, but a majority would rather buy a dull compact than a sports car.
You may have a good point! I must say, since two decades the 'design' aspect is getting better for most of the objects we create. If this applies to cars, I'm not sure. Indeed, some ice cars are made, but most of them are indeed kind of dull. But, I suppose this has to do with trying to create something a lot of people like, which means that no design can be outspoken. In addition, I guess it also has something to do with the price of a car; Nowdays a car is for everybody; In the past it was for more or less for the rich only.
