Hugo Weaving just did an Awesome Autism Awareness Video
With two non verbal autistic children, I am always looking for ways to explain what autism really is and how it affects my children.
I was thrilled when I just found this video with Hugo Weaving - His nephew Ky suffers from autism and Weaving perfectly describes what autism is and how it affects people with it and those around them.
My own son's name is Kai and we live no more than an hour from the Gold Coast (where this was filmed) It truly is a small world and autism affects so many people from all walks of life.
It's really great to see Hugo Weaving helping to spread decent information and to be honest it hit really close to home in so many ways.

Presented and narrated by actor Hugo Weaving, this animation looks at the key characteristics of autism as experienced by his 16-year-old nephew Ky Greenwood. The project was part of Sentis' “Great Works” program and was inspired by Ky’s father William who is part of the Sentis team. Autism Queensland is proud to support this film.

Who has raised a son with the same, I have to say the video does indeed do a great job of explaining autism.
Non-Verbal
One of the most frustrating autistic traits to deal with is anxiety. When anxiety spikes, IQ goes down. Becoming aware of and dealing with anxiety is paramount to success, for anyone with autism.
The combination of anxiety and the social pressures of speaking, is what I believe is the largest challenge to most non-verbal children with autism.
I personally use cannabis for a number of autistic issues, anxiety is first and foremost. I'm unable to function when my (already elevated) anxiety is triggered to go up a few notches. The resulting drop in IQ makes it extremely difficult to think my way out of the situation.
There have been a few reports now of non-verbal autistic children becoming verbal, after using cannabis. I can fully believe it.
The Day is Coming
When we will be able to medicate our children with safe, cannabis based, medicines, without the need for govt involvement. It will be a great day indeed.
