World Autism awareness day
Today is the 2nd Day of April
A day set aside across the globe to create awareness for autism.
A disease in it's own ability.
A spectrum in it's beauty.
We all must have in one way or the other met an Autistic person before,
maybe relational or from a distance. We sure must have felt irritated, pissed off, unimpressed or better still we were left with questions.
Their characteristic Aggression, their avoidance of eye contact, their repetitiveness, their impaired communication, restricted interests. Some don't even like when you touch them or ask them questions. They can also be short tempered.
So here is the deal: In the spirit of creating awareness of Autism, I want to make you aware of some facts about it and I hope you see the beauty in their repetitiveness and understand them better.
•Autism is not rare, as a matter of fact, it is much more common than we think. The disease is even much more prevalent amongst the male children
•Autistic people often don't look disabled
•Just as you wonder why they are different, autistic people wonder why you don't seem to understand them and why you are how you are. Understanding and relating with you is much more difficult for them.
•Autistic people find it difficult to use tone of voice or understand it, they find it difficult to decode sarcasm and facial expressions.
•They may appear to be insensitive and seek out time alone when overloaded by other people
•They may not seek comfort from other people and appear to behave 'strangely' or in a way thought to be socially inappropriate

The use of rules can also be important. It may be difficult for an autistic person to take a different approach to something once they have been taught the 'right' way to do it. People on the autism spectrum may not be comfortable with the idea of change, but may be able to cope better if they can prepare for changes in advance.
Many autistic people have intense and highly-focused interests, often from a fairly young age. These can change over time or be lifelong, and can be anything from art or music, to trains or computers. An interest may sometimes be unusual.
One autistic person loved collecting rubbish, for example. With encouragement, the person developed an interest in recycling and the environment.
Many channel their interest into studying, paid work, volunteering, or other meaningful occupation. Autistic people often report that the pursuit of such interests is fundamental to their wellbeing and happiness.
What causes autism?
The exact cause of autism is still being investigated. Research into causes suggests that a combination of factors - genetic and environmental - may account for differences in development. Autism is not caused by a person's upbringing, their social circumstances and is not the fault of the individual with the condition.
How can you help?
You can start by being a little more understanding and tolerant of people with the spectrum.
Spread the same awareness you have gotten here to others or even more, let them understand that they is a positive energy that can be channeled into this spectrum that would deliver us fine young men and women.
Donate and volunteer to Autism campaigns that you can find and be religious about it.

Autism- Until everyone understands!
Hello! I find your post valuable for the wafrica community! Thanks for the great post! @wafrica is now following you! ALWAYs follow @wafrica and use the wafrica tag!
the most interesting thing about this condition is that there are not two equal autistics and above all, mothers and professionals should be made aware, usually they tend to place additional conditions when it is part of their traits
It's Uniqueness and it's Mystery makes it more of a beauty than a disease. Mothers and Professionals are indeed the closest to them.
Until we all understand
