You could say Saru Rana is the epitome of women’s empowerment in South Australia. Born to a Muslim mother, Sikh father and married to an Australian, Saru is a well-respected figure within South Australian Asian groups, and is considered the flag bearer of multiculturalism.
Founder of not for profit organisation Shamshir—A Human Rights Campaign, Saru resorted to creating a peaceful and harmonious world within the diverse cultures she interacted with on a day to day basis. After moving to Australia, Saru took up a number of initiatives in promoting peaceful relationship between diverse cultures. She took the biggest challenge by organising MILAP (meaning UNITE) to create a common platform to promote harmonious relationships between nations.
To further promote peaceful relations, she also organised WOW (Women Of The World), a series of interactive workshops exclusively for women where she was able to bring women from 21 different communities to interact and aware others about their cultural attributes.
“Teach them young, Team them Right” was the basis of another of Saru’s initiatives where she went on to launch projects like MINI ME inn which she went on to sensitise children about the various social perils such as child sexual abuse. Saru took the next leap when she went international with The Dark Campaign, which was her first attempt to bring together people from around the world for a common cause yet again aiming to make the world a beautiful place to live.
Working in South Australia for the last nine years, Saru has also been involved in various charity projects that support students and new migrants to initiate fundraisers to support them financially.
Saru Rana, is a well-known name in the community for all the good she has done and promises to keep doing.
