As a musician, you probably need some sort of recording software.

I have listed some of the best recording softwares that you can use to produce high quality audio recordings, wether you want to use it for singing or any instrument.

Ableton Live

Ableton is a really good piece of software that i personally use to record with. It works just like a classical recording software, where musical ideas are laid out along a timeline, you record instruments and so on. But Ableton also has a feature that makes it totally unique from other recording softwares! It has the ability to make improvised sessions. This ability makes Ableton the obvious choice if you want to use a recording software on stage when performing a gig. I have personally used the software on stage, and its awesome for that! Som i can definitely recommend it, if you want to use it for this matter.

Ableton is available in three different versions – Intro, Standard and Suite. The intro version features over 700 sounds, 3 virtual instruments and 27 different effects. The Standard version features over 1,100 sounds, 3 instruments and 38 different effects. The suite version features over 3,000 sounds, 9 virtual instruments and 41 different effects.

Pro tools

This software almost doesn't need an introduction. It has been the industry standard for recording software for well over 2 decades! The way that all other recording softwares are set up, are pretty much guided by pro tools.

I dont have this piece of software though, because of one single drawback it has (in my opinion). You must have some sort of usb, that you get with the software, connected to your computer to be able to use it. I guess its their way of protecting themselves from internet pirates.

Reason

This recording software is genius for beat making! Back in the day they focused on the ability to create music with only your laptop. This means that it wasn't possible to get audio from any external sources. The only thing you had to work with was a bunch of software instruments (which was pretty cool in my opinion). Now Reason offers the ability to get audio from any external source, and its even possible to use it together with some of the other software options mentioned in this post. But again, i would only recommend this software if you intend to do a lot of beat making. If you do a lot of recordings with real instruments and vocals, then i would go with another software.

FL Studio (Fruity loops)

FL Studio is one of the oldest recording programs around. In the earliest versions of this software, they were mostly known for their MIDI drum sequencer. Just like Reason, it didn't have the ability to receive audio from any external sources. It wasn't like it had a ton of plugins to create software based music either. It only had a handful of plugins. The software basically revolved around the drum sequencer. The newer versions though, works just like all the other recording softwares with a ton of recording, mixing and music editing capabilities. FL Studio has definitely come a long way since the beginning, but the centerpiece of this software is still the centerpiece of the music creation in this program. This makes FL Studio a perfect if you need a good beat making software.
