So I personally started with a Mixer instead of mic - Behringer 302USB. You can get one new on Ebay for around $70. It's good for couple of reasons - 1) it will teach you easy way how to work with the mixer which can be useful in the future, 2) It will improve the recording quality even on the crappy headset (I used mine with cheap $3 mic - you can check it here, but let me warn you - I speak Polish), 3) You'll have a better range of microphones to upgrade in the future.
