Fantastic Find! - Arrows used by the Khoisan people of South Africa

in #auction8 years ago

It is time to share an awesome auction find again! This time a tube made of bark containing arrows and what I presume to be dried poison that was most likely used by the Khoisan people of South Africa for hunting purposes.

The Khoisan are an indigenous South African population group, set apart from the Bantu (African) tribes of South Africa by their physique and unique language. The term Khoisan refers to two separate groups, the San and the Khoikoi, but due to their similarities they are referred to collectively as the Khoisan. They are distinguished by their very small stature and a language that consists of a lot of clicks. The Colonialists referred to them as Hottentots, as this was a word they heard often when the Khoisan were dancing around the fire. Now the term, Hottentot, is considered derogatory. As is the term, Bushmen, as they were often referred to, due to their nomadic hunter-gatherer lifestyles.

I listed the tube of arrows at a starting price of R750 ($55) though I have no idea what such an item is worth. Unfortunately I don't have the bow. If you would like to view the auction, please request the link in the comments.
