Religious Beliefs To Unlearn:

I am nothing without God.

My desires are sinful.

Your spiritual self is all that matters.

I am responsible for saving others.

There is only one right way to live.

I'm broken and need to be saved.

I cannot trust myself.

These are some of the basic precepts that various religions are apt to instill within people who would hope to convert to a specific faith.

-- I am nothing without God: The notion as with Jesus that a person is not whole, has no purpose in life without The Church, and overall is unable to overcome his nature to sin and be wrong without God, Jesus, etc in his life. This is of course a fallacy.

-- My desires are sinful: Sin takes on many forms, and the documents that define the creeds invent many problems that really are nothing more than wants to compel obedience, or to punish for wrongs that are not. Desires and human emotions need not be called sins either.

-- Your spiritual self is all that matters: A bad way to possibly allow or cause harm to self. To reject the actual tangible world we live in day to day, and forgo all that for some abstract virtual cause.

-- I am responsible for saving others: That may in part be true in the actual physical sense, but salvation here usually and likely means to convert them to one creed or another. A bad idea. Since many do that or hope to do that knowing not much about their newly or otherwise adopted religion.

-- There is only one right way to live: This again is the notion religions foist upon people with their claim that only they know what the right thing to do is, and you need to accept that and act as such.

-- I'm broken and need to be saved: Again the problem say for Jesus is that we need to accept his proxy, scapegoat, and blood debt/pact lest we feel entitled to sin. That is in fact backwards since you'd need to reject Christ in order to ensure you and others account for your deeds.

-- I cannot trust myself: The fallacy that claims you don't know what the right thing to do is, and you need to live in fear of God not to make mistakes. Fraud.
