Navajo Hogan

in #aswcontest6 years ago (edited)

The first hogans were built by the holy people symbolized as turquoise, white shell, jet and abalone shell. The round hogan is symbolic of the sun and its door faces east so the first thing the Navajo family sees in the morning is the rising sun. Father sun is one of the most revered of the Navajo deities. Also the Navajos believe they came to their land by emerging through four levels of worlds, to currently reside in the fourth level, the "glittering world". These dwellings typically have no windows and feature a hole in the roof to let the smoke out. This photo was taken in northern Arizona on the Navajo Indian reservation and was shot on film using a Pentax 6x7 medium format camera. This image is being entered in the abandoned shit photo contest presented by Custom Nature.

Good way to put it, thanks.

The story is very interesting. I love the photos in black and white tones. Regards

Thank you this is part of American Indian heritage.

Interesting cultural history. It looks like an iglu (without offending). I think I've seen similar constructions in cowboys movies (Westers).
Greetings and Good Day!

Your right these structures have been in Western movies. Good day to you!

Super cool shot! That's an awesomely unique looking abandoned building. Good luck in the contest!
