The Old General Store

in #aswcontest6 years ago (edited)

When the apple orchard failed, it reduced several local towns to "ghost" status, or nearly so. Indian Valley still has a post office but the General Store has been closed for a long, long time. People come along and try to fix it up and get it running again, but the old building has managed to run off everyone but the ghosts. The old girl still has such a classic "Wild West" feel to her, I can't help but hope someone will find a way to bring life back to her emptiness!

Even from the back, there is still evidence of the pride in workmanship that went into the construction.

Thanks for the contribution, every day you learn something new! Good pictures

My heart aches for small towns. I live in a small town (for the past 7 years) and I try to brainstorm how to make it a more cohesive place. When there are more renters than owners there is less time and effort invested in making their immediate surroundings nicer plus less neighbor relations.

At least we have a decent foundation to start with.....but many of the involved people are of retirement age. These are the folks that remember conversation without distraction. These are the people who have witnessed so many changes in such a short time. These are the people we should be talking to so we don't forget the real past.

Have a great day @fishyculture. God bless!

Yes! It is sort of an erasing of history to let the stories die, and if we don't learn from history, we tend to repeat it. This little town was visionary - ELECTRIC CARS in the 1930s! And now... There are 2 school aged children here, the rest of us are 50+...

There are so many people that want to move back to the country. I wonder if there is a way to bring back the youth so there is some continuity? Luckily where I live there are generations of families living in close proximity but I would love MORE, of course.

I was just thinking that we have a building in town that looks a lot like your photo. I will try to take a picture of it when I get a chance. It's close to the train tracks and looks like it was part of the old downtown.

P.S. Electric cars in the 1930's.....that's really cool!!!!
