The Abandoned House of Printing

The history of this enterprise is quite tragic. The once large printing enterprise of the Volga region has been abandoned for about eight years. All machines and equipment have long been removed, in the empty shops only garbage and leftover products.

The Samara House of Press was put into operation in 1964. The building was built with great scope - large buildings, warehouses and so on. In Soviet times, the regional committee of the CPSU was officially considered its owner. The premises of the Press House housed the editorial offices of many major newspapers in the city of Kuibyshev, all local and federal editions were produced on its equipment, as well as socio-political, artistic, scientific and educational literature, advertising and commercial printed products. The enterprise employed more than 1000 people.

In the post-perestroika time the building was under the jurisdiction of the regional state structures, but in the middle of the zero years it was unexpectedly privatized. Approximately at the same time the enterprise started financial problems, there were debts. To solve this problem, management began to rent out premises, but this did not help. The enterprise went bankrupt.

In early 2009, the "Samara House of Printing" completely ceased to function as a printing company. All the equipment was taken out of the building, the former editorial and printing building began to deteriorate rapidly.

In the fall of 2015, a major fire occurred, which the specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Measures unequivocally qualified as arson. The roof of the building completely burned down.
