The Night Skies of California
The Milky Way in the summer night sky of Central California. Quite a bit of smoke, dispersed from Yosemite, can be seen on the surface and above the lake. The glow on the horizon is street light from the town of Lee Vining.
Mars Rising -- against a backdrop of our galactic center, over Death Valley, on an August night.
The 2018 Mars Opposition brought the Red Planet closer to the Earth, and made it one of the brightest planets in the night sky. It will remain so from now until September.
