The Masculine Signs and Feminine Signs in Astrology -- It has nothing to do with sex
Fire element -- Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
In Astrology and metaphysics, the terms Masculine and Feminine refer not to gender or personal manner, but to a person's basic orientation on the world and the preferred strategies he uses to deal with problems.
Essentially, masculine signs prefer to seize the moment, make things happen and change what doesn't suit them with their actions and choices. Feminine signs take a more subtle, passive approach when dealing with challenges or working for change.
Earth element -- Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Masculine sign people are life's movers-and-shakers, while feminine signs prefer to be patient, bide their time and "wait and see what happens" before spending energy and resources to make life bend to their will.
They believe that in an ever-changing world, life will often hand them a better situation and require nothing but a little extra time to work things out. That suits them far more than working up a sweat on their own or kicking up a fuss that just upsets everyone.
Feminine sign people are life's stabilizers, the ones who keep the current and continuity going, and maintain the cohesion that sustains life. They avoid the roiling chaos of radical change, and believe that by working slower and fitting themselves to the natural flow, they create better, more durable, more predictable results.
They prefer that to the dramatic upset Fire and Air people create with their proactive tactics and get-'er-done attitudes.
Air element -- Gemini, Libra,Aquarius
Masculine signs are active, spontaneous, overtly ambitious and more interested in imposing their will on the the world than adjusting to what exists. Feminine signs are sensitive, measured, more likely to act on hunches and feelings.
So, when Astrologers speak of masculine and feminine signs, it's not the sexually charged meaning of our gender-sensitive politically-correct culture, but the yin and yang in Chinese philosophy. Life is a constant balancing act between these two forces ... stimulus and response, event and consequence, action and reaction. Masculine / feminine are another way of saying this.
Feminine signs deal with feelings, inner perceptions and material reality. Masculine signs deal with force, identity and intellect.
Water element -- Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Masculine signs show initiative, overt ambition and the ability to conceptualize and communicate verbally. With a majority of planets in masculine signs in your horoscope, you are a doer-and-thinker. You communicate with actions and words. You put out ideas or create changes with your energy. That constitutes "value" for you.
With a majority of planets in feminine signs, you are a feeler-and-shaper. You operate on intuition and have emotional depth. You communicate through feelings, symbols and nuance, and when you spend energy, you want something practical, solid or meaningful to show for it. This constitutes "value" for you.
The Fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. They are the masculine signs. The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. They are the feminine signs.
