Mars is astrology's symbol for raw energy, the ability to do work, take action and assert yourself. It fuels your survival instincts, your ability to defend yourself ... and be aggressive when necessary. It supports your drive for self-sufficiency and independence. It enables you to set goals and accomplish them.
Mars shows your sex drive, the way you push for what you want and your competitive instincts in general. The Inner Self represented by Mars knows how to support itself, how to defend itself, how to get what it wants ... and what to do when life requires you to "fight back" ... to resort to willpower and force.
Your Mars energy wants you to be safe, capable, confident and strong. It helps you take care of Number One. Basically, Mars is the energy that lets you get stuff done!
Mars energy is considered masculine, no matter what its sign, although obviously some signs suit its obstreperous pushy nature better than others. Mars, along with the Sun, reveals how you express the masculine side of your nature. In fact, Mars is the main driver here.
Positively, your Mars energy is ambitious, dynamic, bold and capable. Negatively, it is brash, pugnacious, inconsiderate and uncooperative. These are virtues and character problems commonly associated with men.

Mars energy is tied in to your basic survival skills and instincts, but it can meet these needs in many ways ... including some so devious as to be virtually invisible. Mars energy helps you strategize and carry out plans. It helps you express love and satisfy desire. It also fuels things like anger and temper, and when it turns ugly there can be actual injury and blood in the streets.
