Mercury is in Retrograde for the Next Three Weeks

From August 13 until September 5, that little trickster the planet Mercury will be in retrograde. You are our dreaded but regular house-guest that arrives every three months for three weeks at a time.

Mercury is named after the Roman god of the same name. He was the god that looked after communication and commerce along with the medical profession.

All planets go retrograde, but Mercury’s journey seems to impact people much more than any other maybe because it is one of the closer planets to us. (Even people who “don’t believe in astrology” often “believe” in the crazy aftershocks of Mercury retrograde!)

Why is that? It’s because Mercury rules communication, clear thinking, truth and travel, so when the planet goes retrograde — which means that it looks like it’s going backwards in the sky — all those things go backwards and confusion reigns supreme for that time period.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MERCURY GOES RETROGRADE?

All sorts of things! It’s like everyone you know has suddenly become incoherent and confused. You might find yourself having that "fuzzy-headed" feeling, being unable to finish sentences or make proper decisions. Your computer, vehicle and other electronic equipment are more likely to break down or act up.

You could experience travel delays, too. Double-check your travel information and leave early in case of possible delays. We don’t tend to get all the information we need at this time, so it can be hard to make big decisions and it’s not always the best time to sign a contract, either. It is recommended to wait until after the retrograde period before signing major contracts and deals if possible.

There are good things about Mercury retrograde as it expects us to move back and re-examine various areas of our life which may need a little more work. We often have breakthroughs during this time: — intellectual, emotional or spiritual.

It’s also a terrific period in which to tie up loose ends. So many of us have unfinished projects and this period allows us to tick off more "to-do" items off our list.

This is also a time where it’s very common for someone from your past to try and connect with you.

One of the best ways to cope with a Mercury retrograde — is to “go with the flow”. When you fight Mercury retrograde, that’s when life gets ugly. Just take some time, go slowly, and take a lot of deep breaths. This is the opportunity to finish things that you started a while ago. Also, back up your data and verify anything that you are told in order to have less issues occur.
