They've been around for many centuries if not millennia, so you can view it as on the verge of being replaced or irreplaceable. Tough situation.
Depends on what you define as long term. For you that is.
Is long term = millions of years after you die?
Then, yes.
material science is out of step with suply and demand. The ability to manufacture a produft ad infinium would create a worthless object. Thus, naturally occuring minerals will hold intrinsic vale
Maybe naturally occuring minerals can be "unnaturally" manufactured?
Sure they can, right they already are but their value isn't really near the original. I am thinking science made diamonds. Im not sure if/when they can make the other stuff..
You know what I do like as an investment that has the implication of limited demand, cryptocurrency..
look into tau (i've been writing about them)
Well i intend to live forever therefor anything under 1000 years is a short term investment for me.
So, you are correct, in the future gold will have almost no value.
And as a monetary metal, it will have very little value in the near future.
This will happen over a short time, probably not more than a generation.
I think crypto is the new precious metal, bitcoin being the costliest metal!
