4th beach bum / series / collage

We (AUS) are enjoying a lovely long weekend in Australia thanks to the Queen (thanks queenie). So no working means more time to draw, create and design. I've been lucky enough to have the time to finish my latest artwork, the 4th beachbum. This is a series I am working on, I'm using paper from magazines and glue to put together a number of beach scenes feature the beachbum. The theme is beachbums and the colours are inspired by beachlife. So here is my lastest and favourite so far...

I'm super happy with how the skin tones have turned out, and the background patterns are beautiful.

It all started with a design

Once I was happy with the sketch, I started looking through a number of magazines searching for skin tones and colours of the beach. Then I started chopping at pages and sticking like a crazy person.

Loving the vertical stripped bikinis, they show off a good amount of butt cheek.
Close up it all looks like a bit of a mess, but when you move back the image comes together.

For the background, I wanted beach colours. Colours of the water as it changes through the day, the colour of the waves, the sand, the rocks, the sky in the evening, and the colours in rockpools.

Once all the background was complete, I worked on the skin tone a little more to improve tone and contrast, and added a few highlights to the shirt, I was aiming for a more sheer appearance. Love how this one turned out, looking forward to framing it soon, and putting it on the wall.
