🎨 Dream Generator - original painting

So then, let’s suppose that you were able every night to dream any dream that you wanted to dream, and that you could, for example, have the power within one night to dream 75 years of time, or any length of time you wanted to have. And you would, naturally as you began on this adventure of dreams, you would fulfill all your wishes. You would have every kind of pleasure you could conceive.

And after several nights, of 75 years of total pleasure each, you would say ‘Well, that was pretty great. But now let’s have a surprise. Let’s have a dream which isn’t under control. Where something is going happen to me that I don’t know what it’s going to be.’ And you would dig that and come out of that and say ‘Wow, that was a close shave, wasn’t it?’ And then you would get more and more adventurous, and you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream.

And finally, you would dream where you are now. You would dream the dream of living the life that you are actually living today. That would be within the infinite multiplicity of the choices you would have. Of playing that you weren’t God. Because the whole nature of the godhead, according to this idea, is to play that he’s not.

So in this idea, then, everybody is fundamentally the ultimate reality. Not God in a politically kingly sense, but God in the sense of being the self, the deep-down basic whatever there is. And you’re all that, only you’re pretending you’re not.

Groovy!

I read an SF novel once where the character uploaded their consciousness into a virtual world where they were, essentially, immortal. The guy figured he'd always wanted to work with his hands, so he programmed a workshop with a lathe and started turning table legs. When he started to get bored he just programmed himself to want to keep doing it, so that nothing was more satisfying than the smell of sawdust and the feel of wood shaping under his hands. He did this for tens of thousands of subjective years and filled acres of warehouse space with ornate table legs.

To be honest I forget what happened to him at the end of the book. But sometimes this is how I feel when I fire up a new game of Minecraft. I kind of wish I could program myself not to want to keep doing the same things over and over, especially knowing they have no impact on reality.

But, the very nature of the Human animal is the repetitive task and the search for or desire to get to or away from it at all times. If humans were immortal, the world would be endless 'table legs' :)

Very interesting artwork Peter!

Friend gric, this time I had a hard time finding your publication to see your work and look twenty-two hours later I finally find you, I tell you that almost the mouse breaks me, looking for you. Is that every time I look at your work, I am surprised more and more, and I tell myself that you are a being from another galaxy, because I can not stop saying Wao! but I can not understand how you can achieve this! It's great! How deep is there in that painting! Really before knowing your work I thought that nothing would surprise me, but I think I fell short.
