Whale. pen drawing

in #artzone8 years ago

There is not much to say about this pen drawing. I'm not going to lie, I really like the simplicity and the cross hatching in various directions give it a bit of motion. We think of a whale as a massive being. Sure, it is. But it is a massive being in an even more massive body of water. That's why I went with complete simplicity in this.

The whale itself is about the size of a nickel. Drawn with a very tiny tipped rotring isograph pen on watercolour paper.

I must admit I really do love this piece. Mostly for the simplicity. Simplicity of the drawing and also the composition.

I've been thinking of doing tiny white objects on black backgrounds lately. How did you realize this design with the strange eye near the back?

Just wanted to make it cute and somewhat cartoony looking.

Not qualities I'd immediately guess you were aiming for in most of your art! It's succeeded in a dark-yet-cartoony-hybrid way.
