14th ARTstyleART Submission - Love Hurts - Part 2 - Remembrance - My Sister's Safety Blanky
Materials used: Glued fabric pieces and wallpaper with spray paint, finished with color splashes and gentle brush strokes.
Small sized new original artwork (40 cm x 20 cm - partial image shown) part of my Romantic Dream Escapes series - Counsel Woven Into The Fabric Of Real Life Is Wisdom - Remembrance.
The story behind this abstract minimalistic piece and why it fits the theme of Love Hurts:
Some of you may remember your own safety blanket which you carried around as a young child (don't laugh, I had a blankie as well)- you cherished it, it kept you safe and it gave you comfort ... and, it could never be washed.
.... well, the center of this work contains a worn out and tattered piece from the safety / security blanket (blankie) of my late baby sister, which I recently found in a chest filled with family memorabilia at my mother's house. She kept it for over fifty years ... in remembrance of her daughter (my sister) Michaela, who passed away too young - the pain of her passing never really went away ... Love does hurt.
For me, it is a piece of remembrance as well ... I named it Counsel Woven Into The Fabric Of Real Life Is Wisdom. I displayed the work before, but never actually told the true story behind it ...
amazing, touching...thank you
Thank you for the kind comment and support, Aksinya
The story behind this painting is very touching. I have never lost a child but as a mother I can imagine the pain you mom went through :(
